SAY WHAT?

"In 13 minutes, you have destroyed what I spent 40 years trying to create." -- Yves Saint Laurent to Tom Ford. From then on, Ford's working relationship with the fashion house was rocky, to say the least.

"A man should never wear shorts in the city. Flip-flops and shorts in the city are never appropriate. Shorts should only be worn on the tennis court or on the beach." - Tom Ford, Five Easy Lessons On How To Be A Gentleman

QUEEN DREAM:

".....the character played by Julianne Moore was 'quite literally based on my grandmother,' whose larger-than-life persona was so different from his childhood in New Mexico. "When I was a child it was really like she was from another planet. It seemed like she lived in a different world, and wherever that was, I wanted to go."

Tom Ford covers the new Interview.

FORD EDGE

Tom Ford and Richard Buckley

"One of the things that always amuses me -- amuses isn’t even the right word, because it doesn’t amuse me -- but often, I’m at dinner parties with very close friends, straight, and they realize that Richard and I have been together 24 years, and the response is often, "Wow, you guys have been together 24 years! That’s so amazing. I don’t think of gay men being together that long." And I’m, like, "Why? What are you talking about?" Some of the longest relationships I know of are same-sex couples. A lot of my straight friends have married and divorced and married and divorced in the time Richard and I have been together. I think that preconception, from even very educated liberal friends, that being gay is possibly more sex-based than emotionally based, is surprising and shocking in today’s world," expresses Ford in OUT.

TOM FORD PART DEUX

WORLD OF WONDER:

The project is all hush, hush; but,  Tom Ford is working on a second film.

Also in September, we believe, he is ready to debut a namesake womenswear line.  We can just imagine the opulence.  Just take a gander at his Mens collection.

If a Tom Ford robe from the men's line cost a mere $5600.  How much for the other gender?

What a wonderful world it is... if it is Tom Ford's and your living in it!!

FORD TURNOVER

I'm still worth a lot EVEN dead, bitches!!!

A 1986 purple Andy Warhol self-portrait that Tom Ford possessed went on the auction block.

The piece was sold through Sotherby's for way over the estimated price:

The sale offered a commercial selection of work by blue-chip artists, and prices were strong throughout the evening. All eyes were on the 1986 Andy Warhol “Self Portrait,” which sold for $32.6 million, well above its $15 million high estimate...The seller of the Warhol was Tom Ford, the fashion designer, movie director and collector. He was not at the Sotheby’s sale, but was said to be watching it on the Internet from his London home. The competition made for good entertainment. Six bidders wanted to buy the painting, which ended up selling to Gregoire Billaut of Sotheby’s in Paris. Mr. Billaut was bidding by telephone for an unidentified client. In this painting, made a year before his death, Warhol’s face is cast in a purple light; he is wearing his signature fright wig and staring hauntingly straight at the viewer. He made five versions of the image in this large format — it is nine feet square — and each has a different color. The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh has two — one yellow, one blue; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth has a green one; and Peter M. Brant, a newsprint magnate, has a red one."

AN EGO VORTEX:  WHEN EGOS MEET

Madgey dines with Tom Ford at Scott's restaurant.

It would serve Madge well if she picked the brain of the critically acclaimed director of A Single Man on how to make a successful film, even if he's a newbie.

Hopefully they glossed over Swept Away.

SAY WHAT?

“I stay this way pretty much 24 hours a day. Richard [Buckley, his long time boyfriend] is very funny.
He is usually completely dressed. He does not like to be naked. So he is in the house; we are having dinner.
I am sitting there naked; he is sitting there completely dressed,”  opines 24/7 nudie couture celluloid director Tom Ford.

FORD BUILT

COUTURE CELLULOID:

It always takes a gay man to elevate the standards and set the bar higher.  Attitude.  Confidence.  A sense of being.  An honesty with yourself and others.

Tom Ford does just that.  A sophisticated elegance.  What a man!

RADIOHEAD

FORD DESIGN:

Tom Ford conversed with KCRW about being a director and his film A Single Man.

He prattles about the skills he used as a designer and transferring those to celluloid, his fear of yelling "cut" the first day and the editing process.

TOM FORD IS SUZY HOMEMAKER

We kid.

But, Ford is guesting on the Martha Stewart show tomorrow.  Check those local listings for times.

No doubt he'll discuss A Single Man.

We'll see if Martha pulls out any vintage Gucci-Tom Ford -era to wear.

A FAG AND A HAG:

Vadgey actually looks good tonight.

The premiere of A Single Man happened in NYC.

Can't you feel all the cuntiness (we've heard Ford can be a major one and you already know about The M) in the room?.....

MOVING FORD-WARD

EYE ON THE PRIZE:

The New York Times reveals a quick article on director, Tom Ford.

Ford is more than just a pretty, well groomed, appearance calculated person, he has a soul and he's made a film with one:

“I had one friend whom I’ve known for 15 years who said, ‘I’ve always thought of you as a beautiful black lacquered box with a platinum handle from the 1920s, but I never knew there was anything inside the box,’ ” Mr. Ford said. “I was, like, ‘You’ve been my friend, and you did not know there was anything more than the surface?’ ”

TOM FORD WANTS

Tom Ford wants you know that A Single Man is not a "gay film."

And these are the posters to prove it, Ford designed the right one himself.

Quips Ford:

“I wasn’t trying to make Terminator 12. But this is not a gay film......I don’t even think about that. There are so many gay characters on TV that it’s almost become a cliché.”

The designer-turned-director wants you know that the film is extremely autobiographical and you are inside Ford's head for an hour and half.  Isn't that the case with every director and his film product?  You're not saying anything profound here.

A Single Man takes place in the early 1960's in Los Angeles.  The film focuses on a day in the life of a British English professor as he copes with the sudden death of his longtime companion (wasn't that a film, too?).

But the film isn't gay or anything... can you remember that!!

RUN FOR(D) COVER

"Being at Yves Saint Laurent was such a negative experience…. I have letters from Yves Saint Laurent that are so mean you cannot even believe such vitriol is possible. I just think he was jealous, and Yves and I were friends before I took over the company. But then when we began to move the company forward and were very successfull…he just became so insanely jealous… Pierre and Yves were just evil. So Yves Saint Laurent doesn't exist for me," quips Tom Ford in his lengthy interview for The Advocate.

TOM FORD'S ENLARGEMENT?

His business, we're talking about his business, folks--not what's in his pants.

Ford wants to expand Tom Ford Inc. and the designer is looking for a $50 million finance deal to branch out into womenswear.

Harry Weinstein already agreed to distribute your film, A Single Man, why not have him finance your fashion biz too.  Look how he's trying to resuscitate Halston...

UPDATE:  Recant that.  Don't have Harvey Weinstein doing anything-- massive layoffs are looming at the film company.

**** FORD STARS

The Times gave Tom Ford's directorial debut, A Single Man, 4 out of 5 stars.

"It’s no surprise that the feature film directing debut of fashion designer Tom Ford is a thing of heart-stopping beauty. He celebrates the male form with a sensual reverence. He uses colour with the visual articulacy of Wong Kar Wai and frames his shots with elegance and wit. It looks like a Wallpaper magazine photo shoot styled by Douglas Sirk. But what is a little more unexpected, certainly for those who were suspicious of Ford’s background in the ephemeral world of fashion, is that this is no frothy, throwaway piece of pretty silliness. Rather it’s a work of emotional honesty and authenticity which announces the arrival of a serious filmmaking talent. There will be critics who will be unable to get past the director’s background, but rest assured: Tom Ford is the real deal. "

This makes us really want to see it!!
