CLOSING UP SHOP:

Nobody is shooting anyone because tennis professional Andy Roddick is not going to give them a chance.

After this year's US Open, Andy Pandy is retiring. Sad face.

"I just feel like it's time. I don't know that I'm healthy enough or committed enough to go another year....," quips Roddick.

Andy won the US Open only once in 2003. Roddick, also, was a former #1-ranked player.

As a side note, we were ardent fans for Roddick in the early 2000's, including 2003. THEN!!!!.. that all changed in 2004, when we FIRST laid eyes on Nole Cakes. We jettisoned Andy quicker than Ripley did that Alien.

The spunky Serbian with the wicked cross-court backhand stole our heart from day one. We have been faithful and monogamous fans of Nole's ever since!!

Andy turns 30 on Thursday and will announce his retirement on his birthday.

Andy aggravated a hamstring and was forced to retire from the Australian Open.

After winning his first four sets at the Australian Open in convincing fashion, the No. 15 seed Andy Roddick was forced to retire Thursday because of an injury after the third set of his second-round match against his longtime rival Lleyton Hewitt. Hewitt was ahead, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The match between Roddick and Hewitt, former No. 1 players and Grand Slam champions, had been highly anticipated although the two had fallen out of the top 10 after struggling with injuries in recent years.

“It’s frustrating; it’s discouraging,” Roddick said after the match. “You know, your sensible mind says to have a sense of perspective. You still have it pretty good.

“The competitor in you feels terrible and wants to break stuff.”

After winning the first set in 39 minutes, Roddick was wrong-footed by a Hewitt winner that was hit behind him in the third game of the second set, leaving Roddick slowly bracing himself as he went to the ground. Roddick aggravated a right hamstring injury he originally sustained during training in December....

Quips A Rod:  "I played a pretty good point before that. Just making the return, you get disheartened when he doesn't miss the next ball because it's tough to get a serve back. He had a great volley there. I don't really remember much else besides the fact that I went for the ball, I hit it, I didn't really think much of it. Then I heard people cheering. I was like, ‘No, there's no way that went in.' I guess it did."
