RODDICK RATTLED





Poor Roddick. He must be SO frustrated.

Andy aggravated a hamstring and was forced to retire from the Australian Open.

After winning his first four sets at the Australian Open in convincing fashion, the No. 15 seed Andy Roddick was forced to retire Thursday because of an injury after the third set of his second-round match against his longtime rival Lleyton Hewitt. Hewitt was ahead, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The match between Roddick and Hewitt, former No. 1 players and Grand Slam champions, had been highly anticipated although the two had fallen out of the top 10 after struggling with injuries in recent years.

“It’s frustrating; it’s discouraging,” Roddick said after the match. “You know, your sensible mind says to have a sense of perspective. You still have it pretty good.

“The competitor in you feels terrible and wants to break stuff.”

After winning the first set in 39 minutes, Roddick was wrong-footed by a Hewitt winner that was hit behind him in the third game of the second set, leaving Roddick slowly bracing himself as he went to the ground. Roddick aggravated a right hamstring injury he originally sustained during training in December....
