Last night's show was a RIOT.
Leslie came in the studio and did his signature, "well, well, well."
The Emmy winner discussed his battle with drug and alcohol vices. He would do his theater work at Hollywood and Cahuenga, where the Greyhound station is now. Then, he would run to the Spotlight to have drinks during the intermissions. Funny. He was giving us an earful on THAT!!
He discussed about being in jail 5 times. Calling Del Shores to bail him out. Finally Shores said enough and that is when Jordan knew he had to do something about his life and turn it around.
He talked about his book, My Life on the Pink Carpet, which the editors wanted him to tell his story of a Southern boy growing up gay and moving to Hollywood. He was laughing how the editors would have to clean up his notes to be able to "sell" the book to middle America. He remembered reading the editors versions saying how concise and tight the prose was and the message gets across. Then, he would wake up in the morning to read what he would write then curse the editors for leaving this and that out. Then, he would be on the phone, chewing them out. Toooo funny.
The group discussed spirituality and what Jordan believes in. How he keeps his faith alive. He made everyone get misty eye when he dished about his favorite hymns and how he learned to separate his spirituality with the spirituality of his mom when he goes to church on Sundays with her on his home visits to the South.
He highlighted his work that he does for The Trevor Project and the HRC. And he pontificated about how there are two types of Hollywood people: the ones who give and the ones who take ( like all of young Hollywood whose flames WILL crash and burn---yea!!!!who really cares about them anyway). And what impact he wanted to leave on this earth.
He chatted about his mom and their yearly vacation to Providence town.
He revealed that he has a new show on Lifetime, Alligator Point. Kelsey Grammer is directing and Cybil Shepherd is attatched to the project. So far the pilot has been shot. Leslie will play a reverend or minister that came out during his sermon and was asked to leave the congregation. So his character sets up shop selling jewelry with a religious twist.
He talked about winning his Emmy. He gave kudos and all kind of props to Megan Mullally. He said he met his comedic match with Ms. Mullally. The bigger and more outlandish he would throw his lines as Beverly Leslie. She would come back harder and more outrageous as Karen Walker. He gave her high praise.
What an hour of fun. It went by so fast.
You can get the show on iTunes this Tuesday. Just type in "on air with tony sweet" to download. And you can catch his other shows like the interview with Del Shores.
