We actually took some time this weekend to watch all the episodes of RuPaul's Drag Race on LOGO.
We know it isn't high brow TV but we can't be fascist fags 24/7 and constantly scan the gay sites for news or have Rachel Maddow on all night--we're tired...we need a break sometimes.
The show was cute and pure fluff. And the production value: cheap. The show looks as if it is filmed in some garage and that tacky silver sequined curtain and judge's booth looks like something we could have crafted in 10 minutes.
Despite all that, we think RuPaul has a hit. The female impersonators tried to shed the light to middle America that they do NOT want to be women. Female impersonation is an act and an art form. All the CUNTestants are happy with the schwing in between their legs....ohhh-kay.
The celebrity judges were fun like Santino from Project Runway. Jenny Shimizu was a guest judge. We absolutely love Jenny -- we fell hard for Jenny when we first saw her in that black and white cK ad in the nineties. So it was fun to listen to her comments. Bob Mackie made a guest judge apperance. And RuPaul gave us plenty of snarky comments to keep us rolling in laughter.
Out rapper Cazwell was a guest. We found him very engaging and TOTALLY hot!!
We ABSOLUTELY love RuPaul. He spouted out his RuPaulisms like an overactive verbal fountain: "if you can't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love someone else? can I get an 'amen' up in here...," "severe up n here," "lypsynch for yo life...," "extra-va-gaaaaaaaanzaaaa"
And we loved all his gowns and faboosh wigs...just servin all kind of everything on a silver platter to us.
We loved his comments that would pop out of his head while the drag contestant worked the runway or shot a screen test for a MAC commercial. All his Mommy Dearest quotes and references that he molded and made original to fit the moment.
We were rooting for Nina Flowers but Bebe Zahara Benet was just as fierce. We won't give away any spoilers here.
We CANNOT wait for next season. And if you can, try to watch the entire season with the link we provided.
It was just solid camp television that we needed for a couple of hours to empty our heads of all the Hollywood and political shiz were always reportin .... Can we get an "amen" up n here?
