CALIFORNIA DREAMING

JUSTICE PREVAILS..... for now:

Chief US District Judge Vaughn Walker struck down in a lengthy opinion that hideous California Proposition 8.

This is a major milestone but more battles need to be fought before the war is won. There is no doubt that Judge Walker's ruling will be appealed and the case will make its way to the Supreme Court.

What the different media is reporting:

The New York Times: “Being gay is about forming an adult family relationship with a person of the same sex,” said Jennifer Pizer, the marriage project director for Lambda Legal in Los Angeles, who filed two briefs in support of the plaintiffs. “So denying us equality within the family system is to deny respect for the essence of who we are as gay people.”

USA TODAY: "Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license," Walker wrote. "Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples."

The San Francisco Chronicle: Walker said Prop. 8's sponsors presented a meager case in defense of the measure and that their principal witness, who attested to the harmful effects of same-sex marriage, lacked credentials and credibility.
