Font Bureau is suing NBC for using several fonts and not paying for the rights to use them.
The trademark and copyright infringement lawsuit filed in US District Court states that NBC only paid for a single license, which would allow the user to install the typefaces on a single computer.
Instead, Font Bureau charges that NBC went wild and copied the fonts to numerous computers and using other fonts without securing and paying the license for those different fonts.
You are seeing the fonts in the commercial bumpers of shows like Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. If you are font fanatic, the questionable typefaces are labeled: Bureau Grotesque, Interstate and Antenna.
Font Bureau is asking for no less than $2 million in damages. They also argue that NBC's unauthorized use:
1. has "caused injury to Font Bureau's relationships with present and prospective customers"
2. difficulty for the company to enter into licensing agreements with other companies
3. "will cause confusion, mistake and deception as to the source of Font Bureau's trademarks"
