Richard Berke, a former assistant managing editor, will be The New York Times new National Editor, replacing Suzanne Daley.
The Times describes his resume: Mr. Berke has covered Congress, the White House and four presidential campaigns for The Times, serving for more than a decade as the paper’s national political correspondent. He was the Washington editor for three years before moving to New York and becoming an associate managing editor and, in 2006, assistant managing editor for news.
A graduate of the University of Michigan and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, he joined The Times in 1986, after working as a reporter at The Baltimore Evening Sun, The Minneapolis Tribune and The Los Angeles Herald Examiner.
