The story traces Stu, a young Midwesterner drafted into the US Army in 1943.
His fears lead him to question: being a good soldier and his sexuality.
He has a crush on one of his fellow soldiers, Mitch. A friendship turns to a kiss, then to a relationship filled with angst along with denial.
Sounds like a hit with a winning formula: Boy finds love, boy faces obstacles, boy finds a way to make love work.
