Former USC footballer Brian Cushing surfaced at the Houston Texan training camp ready to practice.
The Texans are grooming him to be an impact pass-rusher.
"He's big and fast and instinctive, that his intensity is off the charts, that he has a chance to be special — perhaps the most important thing is his burning desire," described The Houston Chronicle.
RELIANT ENERGY:
Cushing blogged: "A special diet I’ve been on since starting my senior year in college helps keep me in the best shape I can be in.
I get ALL of my meals from a place in Houston called My Fit Foods. It’s a food delivery system that breaks down my calorie intake every single day. I get six meals a day, the three usual ones and three snacks in between for a total of 6,000 to 7,000 calories a day.
It’s all organic food, anything from lasagna, pasta, chicken. I’m always hungry, so I never skip a meal.
And I drink water. Only water, that’s pretty much all I ever drink. No Coke, no beer, I don’t drink. It’s been like that since high school though, I mostly just drink water with an ice tea thrown in once in a while.
I do get two “cheat meals” a week. One is usually a pizza, or I’ll just go out and have some nachos. It keeps me sane.
Being on a diet all the time is a sacrifice, but for me it’s important to help me get stronger and faster. When you’re always working out you need to put more calories in you than you’re burning. With all the running we do and working out, you’re burning more calories and you have to maintain your levels by putting more food in you.
My favorites are chicken and pasta. The few times they have sent something I don’t like, I just ask them not to deliver it anymore. One time it was a steak. I’m not a big steak guy.
The diet is part of my dedication to the game. The key is to keep doing it when no one’s looking, that I think is what separates me from some others.
I really never take a break, even though some people say that maybe I should. In my mind if I take a break that’s a day I haven’t gotten stronger, and I don’t want that to happen because the guys I’m playing against are working hard and they might be getting closer to me."
