4616 MELROSE

Call us fools but we actually kind of got sucked into seeing the new Melrose Place.

Remakes never really live up to the original.  But that's today's Hollywood:   unoriginal.

The cameras were very Shark meets CSI-- a little too slick with all the swooping ariels of the scene and the start-stop moves.

We found that Simpleton slit creepy-- always lurking around a corner or appearing out of thin air asking others how they felt or what they thought.  Horrible hack-ting.

We always loved Sydney so we wanted to see Laura Leighton reprise her conniving role.  Sadly, not many scenes were offered of the red-haired vamp to fill our cup.

We are liking that there is a lezzy on the show.  Finally.  It gets kind of old having a token gay guy that all the girls are pining for yet male-to-male sex scenes are basically neutered--just look at the original Matt Fielding.

Maybe this Ella will give some hella on the show.  Yet, America, especially straight males, are more comfortable seeing two girls kiss than two men.  And it looks like Ella will be filling that void-- which isn't really moving the gay movement forward but rather two steps back.   Yet, I guess it makes the producers think that they are tackling the gay  topic and making the show "edgy" and "trendy."  Yawn.

We'll give it a couple of more episodes before we write it off.  Hopefully the gay guy character that is supposed to be "macho" will hold our attention for the rest of the season.  He debuts in the next episode.

Until next Tuesday, we'll leave you  with our favorite, all time scene of the entire series of Melrose Place.  The story line where Kimberly blows up the complex.  No matter how far-fetched the story line, we always fell hard for all the histrionics that the writers conjured up.

We loved how Allison was drunk, alone and had Alanis Morissette on the stereo.  A page right out of our break-up book!!
