It will take a couple of days for the register tape to settle and get some idea of what dollar amount this event totaled for stores but thousands came out to celebrate shopping again for Fashion Night Out.
Nearly a 1000 people jammed the Macys in Queens Center to get a glimpse of VOGUE's EIC Anna Wintour.
"It's bigger than our wildest dreams," quipped the editrix.
Even Mayor Bloomberg arrived to join her in all the festivities. The mayor was only able to partake a short time at the US Open matches earlier that afternoon.
Bloomberg rattled the numbers off: NYC has a $10 billion fashion industry that employs 175,000 people. That is more apparel-related business than the world's fashion epicenter, Paris.
Macys sold 6000 FNO t-shirts by 5pm at $30 a pop.
Some bought, some fraught. But the main thing: it extracted people from the confines of their home and reintroduced them to the wonderful emporiums that sell fabulous wares.
