Gay Politics reports:
The House of Representatives, in a bipartisan vote, has passed a bill that provides a path for repeal of the military’s ban on openly gay and lesbian troops. The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it’s still unclear whether there will be time to pass it before the 111th Congress ends on January 4th.
During the House debate, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., challenged Republicans who argued ending the ban could endanger troops because a change in the policy might distract them. ”What does that say about our young military?” Frank asked, arguing that lawmakers were projecting their own unease and impugning the professionalism of the military.
Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., told her colleagues during the debate, “The time has come..to move further down the path for LGBT equality.”
This is GOOD!!! Now, we just need the Senate to pass it.
We all wait with baited breath.....
