Playing for about 2 1/2 hours, Green Day did a quick impromptu concert gig in San Francisco at the DNA Lounge Thursday night.
The band booked the club in just 24 hours in advance and alerted fans the remaining six hours before the show.
Word got out by the 10pm start time and tickets were sold out in 20 minutes.
The band performed songs from its forthcoming album, 21st Century Breakdown.
Billy Joe and team played the songs "from front to back," as promised from its new punk opera.
The second half of the show had old favorites from American Idiot and other iconic Green Day tunes like Basket Case.
The band made up of Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt seemed to be less enthused about playing old hits. After Basket Case, Billy Joe made his fingers into the shape of a gun and put them in his mouth.
Just like a true punk anarchist, biting the hand that feeds you!!
