OUR HEARTS ARE HEAVY

L.A. Angels starting pitcher Nick Adenhart was a victim in a deadly felony hit-and-run car accident in Fullerton, California.

The baseball jock was only 22.

The accident took place just hours after Nick pitched in his fourth major league start.

Reports state that someone driving a minivan ignored a redlight, hitting Adenhart's Mitsubishi into a light pole.  Four people were in the Mitsubishi.  Three out of four died , Nick, a man, and a woman; the fourth passenger is in the hospital.

The suspect that hit Adenhart  tried to flee the scene but was later caught and charged with a felony hit-and-run.

Our prayers go out to all family and friends of the victims.

Update:  10 am pdt:

The Angels organization  along with Adenhart's family released this press statement:

Angels Baseball this morning announced the passing of right-hander Nick Adenhart, the victim of a fatal automobile accident in Fullerton, CA. Two other individuals were also killed in the incident.

Adenhart, 22, was a passenger in a silver Mitsubishi along with three others. Fullerton Police reported the Mitsubishi proceeded through an intersection, when a van ran a red light and broadsided the vehicle. A female driver and male passenger in the Mitsubishi were dead when police and fire department personnel arrived. Adenhart died as the result of his injuries at UCI Medical Center earlier this morning. No other members of the Angels organization were involved.

Adenhart pitched a masterful six innings in last night's game against Oakland (6 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 SO), leaving with a 4-0 lead before a late-inning rally resulted in a 6-4 Angels defeat.

Update 1130am pdt:

A Fullerton PD spokesperson at that Adenhart press conference said the suspect that caused the deadly accident is Andrew Gallo, age 22; Gallo could have been allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time according the Fullerton PD mouthpiece.

It was said that Gallo was driving on a suspended license from a prior DUI.   Gallo most likely will be booked on felony hit-and-run, felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter and possibly murder.

Again, we are speechless........
