YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK IF:         Could there be some homophobic nepotism going down in Louisiana? Twenty-year old Louis Church has admitted to killing 56-year old gay teacher Weston "Tony" Verrette, who had taken the homeless man in and hoped to help him get on his feet. Church, however, had other ideas and stabbed Verrette to death. He later told police he panicked after Verrette made sexual advances. But, despite the gay aspect of the case, Church won't be facing hate crime charges, but second degree murder. His stepfather's a retired cop. [NOLA]

NOT IN THIS COUNTRY YOU WON'T:     The majority of Brazil's gay boys and girls won't be adopting any time soon:
Brazil's lower house of Congress has rejected part of a pending adoption law that would have allowed gay couples to adopt children.
A Wednesday statement from the Chamber of Deputies says a measure giving gay couples the right to adopt was withdrawn because federal law doesn't recognize same-sex civil unions.
A proposal granting same-sex couples the same rights as married heterosexuals has stalled in Brazil's Congress for more than 10 years, prompting some states to take their own actions.
Southern Rio Grande do Sul state has permitted same-sex civil unions since 2004, and a Sao Paulo state court allowed a gay couple to adopt a 5-year-old girl in late 2006.
Brazil's Senate will now attempt to hash out the matter.

PAINTEDBLUESKY SAYS WHAT:   Some American Indians are using their sovereignty to progress past many of the United States:
The Coquille Indian Tribe has adopted a law that recognizes same-sex marriage.
Oregon voters amended the state constitution in 2004 to prohibit gay marriage. But as a federally recognized sovereign nation, the tribe is not bound by the Oregon Constitution.
The Coquilles are believed to be first tribe in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage.

YOU MIGHT BE A REDNECK IF:   Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will let a piece of gay inclusive legislation die this week:
An anti-discrimination order put in place by former Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco four years ago won't be renewed by Gov. Bobby Jindal when it expires Friday.
The order - enacted by Blanco on Dec. 6, 2004 - bars state agencies and contractors from various sorts of harassment and discrimination by race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, political affiliation or disabilities.
Jindal said Wednesday that discrimination is prohibited under state and federal laws and he doesn't want to create more special categories by executive order. He also said he worried it could cause problems with faith-based organizations' ability to contract with the state…

TOUR STOP:  Some Lithuanian politicians going head-to-head with their peers in the European Union. For the second year in a row, Vilnius mayor Juozas Imbrasas and others have again come out against the Union's pro-gay cavalcade:
The European Union’s “anti-discrimination road show” truck has been barred from parking on municipal land in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius by the city’s mayor.
Juozas Imbrasas, the mayor of Vilnius repeatedly refused permission for the tuck to set up shop on municipal land.
Andrius Kupčinskas, Mayor of Kaunas, has also banned the truck, saying that “homosexual festival may cause many negative emotions”.
Last year's tour ended up skipping Lithuania all together. This year, Union organizers have arranged to park on private land, thus bypassing Imbrasas and Kupčinskas' respective bans. The tensions again highlight the same-sex disparities among European Union member nations.

IN CHECK:     "In an unusual move, Hillary Clinton's staff is creating a 40-member "whip team" at the Denver Democratic convention to ensure that her supporters don't engage in embarrassing anti-Obama demonstrations during the floor vote on her nomination, according to people familiar with the planning." Yes, but can they quell outdoor rallies? [Politico]

LET'S DANCE:    Two small American children freak on one another. And, in the course of the dance, the girl gets on her belly and the boy simulates sex. At least this can't be blamed on the gays… [MG]

NO HEART NY:   Gay foes claim Elmira, New York's police department discriminated against them and violated their free speech rights when they forbade them from passing out homophobic materials at a pride rally this summer. Now they're suing. [WETM-TV]
