Lesbian activist and same-sex marriage pioneer Del Martin passes away at 87.
Martin married her longtime partner, Phyllis Lyons as soon as marriages were available in California at 5pm on June 16th. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom married the couple.
Martin founded with partner Lyon the nation's first outspoken advocacy group for lesbians, The Daughters of Bilitis.
Martin left the earth in a San Francisco hospital.
Our thoughts and prayers go to her wife, Mrs. Lyons-Martin, family and friends.
